How to Pick Up a Girl on MySpace

Back in the 70s you could roll into the bar wearing platform shoes, polyester, ask a girl what her sign was and get her digits. Now we all live in our own little worlds and if you approached a girl like that you would probably get pepper sprayed. Where is a guy to turn to use his pure cheesiness to pick up the opposite sex? MySpace of course!

MySpace can act like a dating site for people who were marked as too unpure by eharmony or too cheap to pay for match.com. It is a place where even the most desperate can luck up and find somebody.

Hi, I’m Nikki Key and you are watching another edition of the Daily Idea.

The dating scene isn’t what is used to be.

MySpace can act like a dating site for people who were marked as too “unpure” by eharmony or too cheap to pay for match dot com. It is a place where even the most desperate can luck up and find somebody.

First off you need to establish your profile and persona. You need to make sure you get the right picture, so take off your shirt, suck in your stomach, and get in front of the mirror. You get bonus points if the flash distorts your face!

And I almost forgot, don’t forget to wear your hat slightly askew, because we ladies really dig that. Besides the traditional mirror picture make sure you have one with you popping your collar, nothing says now and hip more than a popped collar.

Next up, make sure you litter your profile page with pinup models, Tila Tequila pics, and other random hot girls. By doing this, you show the ladies you have high expectations for your dates. And remember girls, guys with false expectations and unattainable dreams are better than guys without any expectations or dreams.

Now that you have your profile set you need to go on the hunt and try to find Miss Right or more likely Miss Right now… Actually more like Miss I am desperate and crave the attention and approval I couldn’t get from my father.

The question is how do you find this girl? Here are some tips.

Number 1 – Find a girl that writes a lot of poetry and posts it for the world to see. These girls are begging for attention and you are just the guy to give it to them because their “art” really speaks to you.

Number 2 – Look for single mothers or women going through a divorce because those cougars need love too.

Finally, any girl that takes risqué pictures and posts them all over her profile is begging for attention.

However these girls are young and hot and probably have about 5 to 7 guys on the line along with you. So your best bet is to find the poetry writing, newly divorced, single mom that takes risqué pictures and posts them all over her profile.

One final tip: make sure you are actually talking to a girl of legal age. Nothing will kill your dating life quicker than a date with Chris Hansen on “To Catch a Predator.”

So there you have it, a totally depraved guide to how to date on myspace. Now just stay far away from my profile.

And that is another Daily Idea.

Howdy, I’m Nikki Key and the Daily Idea is headed to TEXAS!

For regular geeks, tech conferences are a dime a dozen, but if you’re a WEB geek, and we are, South By Southwest Interactive is THE place to be each March.

South by Southwest is better known for its now famous annual music festival, but they’ve expanded over time and now it’s also one of the best web conferences around. Since our producers are old hats at this, we asked the Daily Idea research team to dig up the best tips to create the Ultimate Guide to South by Southwest Interactive.

According to the research team, all types of good-to-know folks attend this event. You’ll run across developers, designers, photographers, podcasters , authors, consultants, entrepreneurs, web stars and even a few corporate suits. C’mon, he’s not a suit… yet.

With all these great people in one place, hour first tip is to meet new people! I know some of us like communicating online but why not actually MEET your online friends in person. And don’t be afraid to approach the big name guys either. The great thing about this event is everyone is approachable and if they’re not … well tell the world on Twitter.

Ahh yes… Twitter. In 2007, this micro-blogging service started its love affair with South By Southwest and blew up in Austin. Be sure to follow the new friends you made like us and follow those you want to meet.

We’re positive Twitter will bring that beat back to Austin. Seriously…be patient with the Twitter gang as we’re sure they’re servers are going to be pushed to their limits.

Now let’s discuss the most important part… ok the most important to me… What to wear!

Yes, I’ve been told not everyone there will be sporting belt buckles, wrangler jeans or leather chaps, but ladies I must say… a cowboy hat isn’t the worst thing a man could wear. Actually, this is the worst thing a man can wear but that’s another show. At South by Southwest, you’ll see everything from t-shirts to t-shirts to… t-shirts and yes a few corporate suits… someone had to sponsor this thing!

Seriously though the dress code is whatever works for you and our research team suggests above all else… be comfortable.

In addition to clothes, our researchers suggest bringing your camera, a camcorder or any other device that helps you document the event.

Now, I’m not trying to ‘Mom’ you guys, but be sure to appropriately tag your content. What good is that perfect photo of you and Chris Brogan if people can’t find it?

When you’re not hobnobbing with the blogebrities, you may be tempted to spend your free time on your laptop.

I know most of us can’t go too long without web access, but if you’re going to make more friends in your first life, try to keep time online to a minimum.

It’s fine to write a couple blog posts and check your email, but honestly you can do all that back home.

What you can’t do at home is party with this many web geeks. Be sure to get rest BEFORE you show up at Austin, because our research team say the parties are the best.

Check out South By Southwest Baby.com, upcoming .org and the official South by Southwest site for all the evening events.

And be sure to ask around as there are a few unlisted parties you’ll want to attend.

Now we didn’t have time to cover everything here, so our researchers compiled a great list of links and tools for you to plan out your schedule. Be sure to go to dailyidea.tv for our lonnnggggg list of links.

And don’t be strangers… when you see us down in Austin come up and say howdy. We’ll be taping lots of great stuff and talking to fabulous people like you on camera.

Again, get some rest before you go, travel safe and that’s another daily Idea.

What Type of Social Networking User Are You?

Millions of people use social networks every day, but you need to be aware of the three types of users. Your actions determine what type of social networking user you become, so watch this video to identify which of the three types are you!

Today’s episode is sponsored by Profilactic.com. If you’re tired of managing too many online profiles, let Profilactic solve this problem with their easy-to-use mashup.FULL TRANSCRIPT

Hi I’m Nikki Key and you are watching the Daily Idea.

Today we are going to talk about social networking and determining what type of social networking user you are. Whether it is MySpace, Facebook, Freindster, Hi-5, Bebo, LinkedIn, Orkut, or Humble Voice each user usually fits a profile. Here at the Daily Idea we are going to help you figure out which profile you fit.

If you pro actively go out and attempt to gain friends, add anyone that comes into contact with you even if they are just trying to sell you ringtones, and keep track of your rising friend count like it was the NASDAQ than we consider you a friends wh…. Well let’s just say you have a “casual moral attitude” when it comes to adding friends.

Users like this aren’t usually interested in building a relationship but promoting something or just trying to accumulate numbers to fill a void in their heart. I guess it is better than using pain killers and cheap vodka to fill it.

If you are the opposite and keep your profile private adding only the closest people to you, than we consider you a closed networker or just an unfriendly person. These users are usually either super important or have a massive skeleton to hide. Most of the time though these people are usually trying to keep secret information from going public so it doesn’t impact their impending divorce trial, or so I have heard.

Just like Goldilock and the three bears there is one type of social networking user that is just right. Our third type of user is someone that is interested in genuinely connecting with other users and looks at social networking websites as a way to engage in multiple conversations with people that they wouldn’t necessarily be able to meet in real life.

They use social networking to create content, respond to others content, and share what they find with other users. We like to think of this type of person as the ideal citizen in the cyber world. A pro-consumer or a con-producer if you will…

We hope this helped you determine what type of social networking user you are, and hopefully if you are one of the first two we listed this will help you change and become that “just right” user.

If you’d like to be a part of our global conversation you can add the Daily Idea to your MySpace or Facebook account as well as sharing us with your friends. You know we always appreciate that.
