Hi, I’m Nikki Key and this is the Daily (yawn) Idea (rub your eyes like you just woke up)

Sorry…I’m exhausted. I’ve been getting about 2 to 3 hours of sleep a night. So I asked the writers to do some research on getting better sleep. After they finally stopped playing Guitar Hero, they borrowed some ideas from Lifehacker.com on the Top Ways to Sleep Smarter and Better.

1. Reduce Screen Time Before Bed

Now, we all love to check our Facebook or clear out our DVR shows or spend hours dedicating ourselves to improving our money, items, experience and reputation on World of Warcraft so we can level up to 70. OK…maybe that’s just me. Regardless, checking your email or watching TV or playing video games just before bedtime tricks your brain. The exposure to light stimulates your brain and creates a false sense of alertness and stimulation. For me, that means turning off World of Warcraft before three in the morning.

2. Eat to Enhance Sleep

You already know warm milk, chamomile tea and turkey help you sleep, but Yahoo foods lists other foods like bananas, potatoes, oatmeal, and whole-wheat bread also help.
So if one of those foods helps, surely all of them would be even better, right? I suggest just blending them all together into one tasty, sleep-inducing treat.

3. Exercise

You know exercising provides great health benefits and a sexy physique, but you can add a good night’s sleep to the list of rewards as well. However, make sure you exercise in the morning or afternoon, not at night. The National Sleep Foundation reports exercise in the morning or afternoon can help deepen shut-eye and cut the time it takes for you to fall into dreamland. Oh yeah, exercise enhances that other bedtime activity, too (raise eyebrows)…you know what I’m talking about…oh yeah…yeah…(even though the joke is obvious here, Nikki feels the audience may not be picking up what she’s saying; this realization hits you). You all know, I’m talking about sex, right?

We hope these tips help and check out Lifehacker.com for more ways to sleep smarter and better.

And that’s another (big stretch) Daily Idea! I’m going to bed.
