Breaking News: Being Fat Sucks

February 22nd, 2008 Posted in Fridays with Falls, Health

Watching Sally Struthers graze the plains of Africa like a water buffalo forced an alarming revelation from The Daily Idea’s Jason Falls. “I’m fat, Dawg!” He said from the buffet line at Slimy Slims Pork Fritters and Oyster Bar. And only Jason Falls can inspire people to loose weight by suffering through relentless fat jokes.

    Thanks Ryan.

Just to offer up a little loggy thing:

Friday I had a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich for breakfast. (Not the most healthy, I know.) But, I had a Caesar salad with shrimp for lunch, some orange juice (which I never drink) and I didn’t snack (Reese’s are my weakness). I was traveling and I have the flu, so it wasn’t a great day for health, but I did a couple things to take better care of myself.

Hey Jason remember baby steps are good for starting our I have a few suggestions when you are feeling better #1 instead of soft drinks take bottled water #2 when ordering out always choose wheat bread over white and whenever possible take a cooler of Fruit along with you also along the way you may want to join a Gym or a YMCA I did find several in the Louisville area if you want the web address I will give it to you if you want I belong to our local YMCA it was hard at first but I’m glad I did it it makes a person feel better well I wish you the best on improving your health you won’t regret it I hope this helps

Hi Jason. Congratulations on deciding to live a healthier lifestyle…it isn’t easy, but it’s well worth it, for you and your entire family. I made the same decision over a year ago and managed to lose 40 pounds on my own, from more sensible eating and a bit of exercise. You said you’re not a “warm and fuzzy” kind of guy, well….I’m not a “warm and fuzzy” kind of girl, so I’ll just tell you some of the things I did that helped me lose the weight and keep it off. My biggest thing was cutting out junk food…my weakness was cookies. That helped a lot. I also try to get 30 minutes of exercise most days. I don’t like the thought of going to a gym, so I decided to try walking. In the nice weather, I walk outside, for usually an hour (the time whips by), but I found I get a better workout if I walk to exercise tapes. I found a really good set of tapes called “Walk Away the Pounds” by Leslie Sansone. There are a lot of tapes to choose from and some include weights, They’re REALLY easy to learn (only 4 different moves really) and she isn’t annoying to listen to. If you google her, you’ll find her site. She has men in most of her videos and they’re a good general workout. I do a 30 minute walk each day and find it gets my heartrate up better than a walk outside. The videos also make you a bit more committed. Who doesn’t have 30 minutes of free time in a day? Sometimes when I’m doing nothing productive, I think to myself, “I really could do that tape and get it over with”….I’ll admit I still don’t always enjoy it, but then I remind myself why I do it. So, give the tapes a try, maybe. The other thing I try to do is pick a vegetable you like (I picked celery with low-fat ranch dressing as a dip) and try and have it as a side dish for your supper. It prevents me from going back to seconds and it reminds me when I really, really want seconds, why I shouldn’t have it..lol. The last piece of advice I’d give you is not to beat yourself up if you have a bad day and eat things you probably shouldn’t. Just rememeber it’s a long term goal to live healthier, give yourself permission to have the odd screw-up, and move on. Anyway, those are my thoughts. I’m like you, I didn’t set any goals for weight or exercise, I just wanted to live healthier. I’ve managed to keep my weight off for over a year and I’m hoping to lose a bit more. Best Wishes to you and your family…and you can do it!!
    Jo
