Behind the Scenes of Daily Idea
February 14th, 2008 Posted in AboutThe whole Daily Idea crew is out celebrating Valentine’s Day, so I’m here to give you a behind the scenes look at how a web show is really produced. We show you the full set including the camera, bluescreen, teleprompter and more. But shooting a web show isn’t all about big money and glamour. It’s hard work and we hope this glimpse behind the curtain gives you some insight on how things come together.
FULL TRANSCRIPT
Hi, I’m not Nikki Key, but you ARE watching the Daily Idea.
I’m Joe Bennett, one of the special correspondents for the Daily Idea. The whole Daily Idea crew is out celebrating Valentine’s Day and I’m stuck… uhh, I mean, I have the privilege of giving you a behind the scenes look at how a web show is really produced and I… again “volunteered” to give you the nickel tour.
Before we get started, let’s continue with this theme of love, I have to thank the many fans who have written about my recent costume. I’m as surprised as you were when the producers let me wear my workout gear to teach you about Hollywood diets. We’ve had mixed reviews on the diets, but I appreciate the numerous compliments(ok, only 2 outside of my wife) on my shorts! It’s that kind of feedback that helps us create such a great show.
Some of our best ideas come from YOU, the viewers. So stop being lazy. We know you have opinions… so tell us what you want to see next.
Since we’re moving to a studio next week, this is our last chance to show you where it all started. Many great companies began in humble places. There’s the famous Google garage where Sergei and Larry got their start. HP also started in a garage. Since we’re from Kentucky I know what you’re thinking…. Um, not exactly… We actually shoot the show in Rob’s basement. He’s a producer of this show and somehow he convinced his lovely wife Tonya to allow us into their home for almost 5 months! So, let’s get started on the tour.
(show real bluescreen)
Here’s our bluescreen. Yes, we use a bluescreen. Jay Bowman has done a great job directing and editing our show with this little piece of cloth and we’re lucky to have him… And the cloth. You remember Jay… he starred in several epic episodes such as Business Buzzwords, How to become an early riser and Debbie Does Jay. Oops, same basement… wrong show!
We also use the latest digital equipment to film our show. Yes, we use a teleprompter. It saves us tons of time and provides great humor for our editing team.
This faithful device is propped up by half a bookshelf, a nike shoe box, Gone With the Wind board game and an HP photo printer. I suspect this is how they do it at Warner Brothers.
Now, that we’ve released the (air-quotes) official brands that support the Daily Idea’s teleprompter, It would be really cool if Nike and HP would contact us with a sponsor offer. If you know someone there, send them this video and let them know how critical they are to our success.
But shooting a web show isn’t all about big money and glamour. It takes hard work and a lot of hours to be this glamorous. Did we mention we have to turn off the heating and air to shoot this show? It’s quieter and it saves money. Oh, and Rob and Tonya can’t walk around upstairs while we shoot. It’s like home incarceration.
Special thanks to Rob and Tonya and thanks to you for watching our show. That’s all for today. Be sure to join us on Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and the 6,000 other sites we’re on today. Go to DailyIdea dot tv to see all the places you can keep up with us. See you next time from our new digs.
And that’s another Daily Idea.
