Hi, I’m Nikki Key and you’re watching The Daily Idea.

If you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it 1,000 times … you need to get more exercise. But getting your lazy butt out of bed and to the gym is easier said than done.

Well the ab-crunching crazies in the Daily Idea research department decided to find out what it would take to whip all of our viewers into shape. And while drinking celery juice and running marathon’s isn’t exactly a reasonable, they did find some info to help you reach some easily attainable goals.

He says there are four simple steps everyone can follow to get in the habit of working out.

The first step is to set one super easy goal to start off. Let’s say, your goal is to walk five minutes each day. Easy enough? Write the goal down, make an appointment on your calendar to do it and stick to it for one month.

The next step is to log your exercise daily. This is the key habit because once you see consistent progress, it will motivate you to keep going. Write down the date, time and what you did. And do it as soon as your done working out, with no exceptions.

Report to others. Whether it’s your wife, husband, co-worker or your mom … find someone who will call you out if you miss a day. If you’re a blogger, post your daily log so your audience keeps you in line. Make sure they know your goals and ask them to expect a report from you every day.

Finally, add motivation as you need it. Whether it’s punishment for missing a day or a reward for a job well done (preferably not junk food), give yourself a little extra jolt to avoid giving up. If you add motivation and still miss a workout, add more. Do whatever it takes to keep you on track.

And that’s all there is to it. By setting simple goals, writing down your progress, having others keep you accountable and finding motivation when you need it most, you too can be up and at ‘em, burning those calories every day. I know it sounds simple, but after one month of giving it a try, you’ll be on the road to a habit you won’t want to break.

And that’s another Daily Idea.
